ZOE established case study regions in the Mesoamerican rainforest and tropical dry forest (Costa Rica and Guatemala) and in the European mixed forested temperate region (Slovenia and Slovakia). Biodiversity and disease risk assessments at each sampling site will build on a unique interdisciplinary approach at broad and fine grain resolutions, targeting ecosystem, plant, rodent, arthropod and microbial diversity.
